The smart choice in the Rotterdam area |
Klundert
Klundert is a walled town that exudes tranquillity and history. The walled town of Klundert has 5,873 inhabitants and formed part of the southern defence line against the Spaniards in the 80 years war. William of Orange surrounded the town with ramparts and ditches in 1583. Although the walls have unfortunately not been preserved intact, the "The Stone Dolls" still remind one of that defensive construction. The pride of Klundert is the notable renaissance town hall, built at the orders of Prince Maurits in 1621. It is one of the few town halls in the Netherlands that stands completely detached in a square. The special green character has even attracted international attention. In 1998 Klundert won the second prize in Entente Florale, the European competition for green areas in municipalities. In Klundert you will also find the Niervaert, a recreational complex with covered swimming pools and rooms for meetings and parties.
